Is There Anybody Out There?
Anonymity and aesthetic emotions in music and architecture
This grounded research project addresses the conundrum of ‘anonymity and signature’ and ‘intersubjectivity’ and individualistic experience’ with regard to the aesthetic emotions elicited by musical and architectural experiences. While differentiating between aesthetic emotions and otherwise utilitarian emotions, we also speculate the possibility of visually dominated architecture triggering different forms of emotions compared to the largely auditory stimuli of music.
